SiS Foundation: Tragedy at the Quarry
SiS was recently approached by John King, Head of Safety at Falkbuilt. He stated that he had watched the owner of Arjon Construction present a video SiS had created for a creative sentencing project at the ACSA conference in Edmonton a few years back. He stated that, “it was one of the most impactful moments of my career. The owner of Arjon was made to present the video several times across Canada as part of his creative sentencing. The ACSA conference was his first stop. He was crying during the whole presentation, the OH&S representative tried to stop the presentation a few times, but he refused to stop and continued present that video to a room full of safety professionals. I’ll never forget it.”
John is showing this highly impactful video to his leadership team as part of their supervisors ongoing training to teach them about creative sentencing and their liabilities as supervisors with regards to criminal negligence and the impact of these preventable and tragic accidents.
Why do we do what we do? Because we care. And because we believe the best place to implement change in terms of promoting ‘safety first’ work cultures is with today’s students – tomorrow’s workers.
